It depends on the location of your property. My advice is to find the tax assessor or tax collector office in your county and have them "reassess" your taxes. This is a pretty easy process to start but it sometimes takes awhile for the changes to be made. Whatever county you are located in within the US type this into google: "*Insert County Name Here*Tax Assessor" (ex. Los Angeles County Tax Assessor) and contact their office for help.

A tax attorney or real estate attorney will be WAY to expensive for this especially since you can accomplish this task yourself. Good luck!

HI,I agree "It depends on the location of your property".and I think all these things should be cleared before buy a property.I personally recommend to hire a property dealer or agent for buying a home he always care about all these thing after all they are professional people.
so According to my personal view you should hire a tax layer if you don't know about this field. otherwise you'll have to spend a lot of time for it.
so thanks may it prove helpful for you.
