Do I need to Explain why my Salary is the same as last app? [#permalink]
01 Oct 2009, 22:01
Guys I don't know about many of you, but we had a salary freeze at our company since June 2008, and essentially my salary is the same. Do I need to explain this in the optional essay? thanks WG

I'm not a reapplicant, but my company has also been under a salary freeze for the last year and a half. So my salary at my current position doesn't really show any movement. I didn't explain it in any of my optional essays so far, though. I wouldn't worry about it, the Adcoms know what the situation is like out there, as long as your recommendations show evidence of growth, you should be ok.

Make it very short. Maybe, something like "although my responsibilities have increased in both scope, my salary and title have remained constant due to a company wide freeze in promotions"

I would say don't worry about the salary part. All over the globe its the same situation and AdCom knows that very well. On the positive note, its good that atleast you have retained the same salary level when some companies are busy deducting the pay-packages and jobs.

How important is salary in your application?
I may have underestimated my salary+bonus by 20%, and I'm not sure if this has any impact...
