Do you think I can score 500+? [#permalink]
25 Oct 2009, 12:57
Hi, I did the official gmat in May and I scored 330 (Q-22 and V-14) I continued studying (on and off) from May until today. Since beginning of this month, i did three gmatpreps and i scored 430-440 (Q-34) and V(16)... do you think that Ill be able to get 500+ if I do the real gmat in the next two weekends? I already sent my application and missing only gmat. Honestly, I dont think that my score was improved only by 100 points!!! The improvement in my math score (comparing the real exam and the practice one) looks realistic for me, but not the verbal score.... 2 points of difference in english ... I really focused on SC and CR after doing the real gmat, so i think my score should improve more.... any suggestions?? i need some realistic hopes

MontrealLady, As mentioned in other threads, yes a 500 is an achievable score. Based on your other thread regarding this topic, you said you are your own worst enemy when it comes to prep (bored, unable to concentrate/focus). Given you're struggling to get through the content in a prep environment, under the strain of the test environment I can only see this lack of focus/concentration hurting you more. Is your timing/time management on point for the test (~2 mins/problem in quant and 1.75 mins/problem in verbal)?

Hey MontrealLady, I really think that you need some motivation . we know that you are scoring around 300-400 , but 500 is really gettable . - Get Number Properties and Word Translation on your tip (just two topics ) and plan your timing. Keep yourself some target for the questions . x minutes for 15 questions y minutes for next 15 and then z for the rest.. - Verbal : SC should be your top priority now . that is the area where you can increase your score , by reading some valuable books. Buy Manhattan Sentence Correction book . Set your Goals High and remember , you may not struggle with the books anymore

Whats your timing like? This is a huge, if not, neglected part of most peoples gmat preparation. My score jumped by 60 points purely because my timing was a lot better. I still have a lot of work to do on my timing but I think I should be able to add another 40 points to that 60 by bettering my timing.

My time is ok...I always finish on time, however, sometimes rush at the end of the verbal section... Im planning to spend less on SC, so I can have more time for RC

I spend too much time on RC, but still can finish both parts on time

I forgot to mention that before doing the official GMAT in May, I did Kaplan test and scored 430... when I checked the score estemator, 430 is around 540.... that was in May and I honestly was not that prepared... I'm going to take the test tomorrow and try to keep my self-esteem up during the exam Wish me luck!!!
