Do you use specific examples in analysis of an issue? [#permalink] New post 16 Apr 2012, 12:56
For the analysis of an issue essay, I have seen some essays where the writer just uses logic/reasoning to explain each point that supports (or does not support) the statement. However I have been trying to use specific examples in each paragraph; i.e. my first paragraph will use a particular company as an example throughout to support my point, and the next one may have a historical example, etc. I guess my question is do stronger essays use concrete examples in each paragraph, or is just commentary/your opinion okay?

Thanks

Yes, you can absolutely use real world examples. But just assume that the reader doesn't know everything, so just make sure that your examples a relavent and popular enough for a reader to understand.

I would say that a stronger essay will always point to examples to help prove the point. You can just say your opinion or logic, without supporting with something. Plus, it's a great time to throw in keyboard: Such as.... For example... For instance... etc...

Definitely use specifics, and make your essay as long as possible.
