Doctor: Research shows that adolescents who play video games on a regular basis are three times as likely to develop carpal tunnel syndrome as are adolescents who do not play video games. Federal legislation that prohibits the sale of video games to minors would help curb this painful wrist condition among adolescents.

The doctor’s conclusion depends on which of the following assumptions?

A The majority of federal legislators would vote for a bill that prohibits the sale of video games to minors.
B Not all adolescents who play video games on a regular basis suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome.
C Playing video games is the only way an adolescent can develop carpal tunnel syndrome.
D Most parents would refuse to purchase video games for their adolescent children.
E The regular playing of video games by adolescents does not produce such beneficial effects as better hand-eye coordination and improved reaction time.

Explanations would be great. Thanks.

Conclusion:- Federal legislation that prohibits the sale of video games to minors would help curb this painful wrist condition among adolescents.

A) Just says that bill will pass but dosent say whether bill helps or not.
B) irrelvant
C) How disease is caused isn't our concern, Whether bill helps or not
D) If this is not true then adolescents can get video games from other sources, so the argument fails. Hence correct ans.
E)irrelvant

D strengthens the last line of the argument

Premise: Federal legislation that prohibits the sale of video games to minors would help curb this painful wrist condition among adolescents.

A The majority of federal legislators would vote for a bill that prohibits the sale of video games to minors.
-- The legislation is already there. No question of voting for it. Hence A cannot be a correct answer choice.

B Not all adolescents who play video games on a regular basis suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome.
-- This is already given in the premise. Hence B cannot be a correct answer choice.

C Playing video games is the only way an adolescent can develop carpal tunnel syndrome.
-- This is irrelevant to argument about video games. Out of scope. Hence C cannot be a correct answer choice.

D Most parents would refuse to purchase video games for their adolescent children.
-- If the children can buy the video games from other sources, it would definitely put the argument in question. Hence D is a correct answer choice.

E The regular playing of video games by adolescents does not produce such beneficial effects as better hand-eye coordination and improved reaction time.
Totally irrelevant. Hence E is not a correct answer choice.

its not C coz the word used is "curb" which is to control --- and not something absolute like "eliminate"

Had it been eliminate then C I think would also have been right
