does the gmat matter once you're in school? [#permalink] New post 27 Dec 2008, 00:29
i've only taken the gmat once and scored 690. i was approaching application season for round1, so focused my time on my essays instead of retaking the test. i've gotten into my top choices already and was wondering whether i should bother re-taking the gmat at this point (for recruitment purposes). do mba students at top schools typically put their gmats on their resumes? do recruiters care what you scored? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Once you get into a specific MBA program, your resume will get published in a resume book for campus recruiters.

Students who scored high in 700 range will probably post their score on their resume. Plus, specific employers have GMAT score section to post in their online application. (i.e. - Goldman Sachs)

GMAT score can be used as a comparison tool by a potential employer and he/she can even bluntly ask you your GMAT score during the interview.

Therefore, yes-------it CAN matter once you are in school ---- in many different ways other than the examples used above.

P.S. - 690 is a fantastic GMAT score. It's up to you if you want to put little more effort in and break the 700 barrier. :-D

thanks. i know for sure i can score in the 700s. i just didn't have time to re-take and thought my time would be better spent writing great essays. now i have 3/4 of 2009 to take the gmats again before i head off for school...
