i am doing business
i hav 100 acres of land (we grow only rice and wheat )- net annual profit 25 lakh non taxable
gas station - net annual profit 5 lakh
commission agent - net annual profit 2 to 2.5 lakh
real estate - most profitable but profit varies very much

gmat 680

i want to apply to b school . Do they consider these businesses as experience or they consider only some company job as work ex. my consusltant told me i cannot write about these businesses as b school donot consider them as work experience . This is a family business .
If i can show them as work exp. then how should i write about my work .

so plz help walker or anyone else

Hi,

You can very well write your family business experience as your full time experience but at the same time you will need to demonstrate that you are pursuing that as full time job and you are fully involved in day to day activities. Business schools appreciate the applicants with family business background as for them that is a fresh pool of potential businessmen. Dont worry about your experience, you are definitely at par or better than any other applicant in terms of your experience.

THANKS A LOT NEHA ... THATS VERY KIND OF U. I WAS VERY MUCH WORRIED ABOUT WHAT MY CONSULTANT SAID .
I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION .. AS I WANTED TO OPEN A SPINNING MILL. I WANT TO MBA IN MANAGEMENT AND FINANCE .. COULD U SUGGEST ME SOME SCHOOLS WHERE I COULD APPLY..

You seem to be involved in wide array of businesses.

for you Bschool app. First question we need to answer why MBA and then what do you intend to achieve after mba both in short term and long term.

based on ur goals and your objectives of doing the MBA , schools shortlisting will happen.

to build a good story, for example you apply to Wisconsin MBA with real estate focus the your story around your real estate work ex will be built.

Hi,

Yes... You can mention this as a full time work ex. Infact you should use this to your advantage to differentiate yourself from rest of the applicant pool as there are rarely any applicants with this kind of profile.

Just make sure that you don't end up in giving a picture to the B school adcom that you are just superficially involved in your family business and have mentioned these just ti get an admission.
