Does Zip Code Matter when applying to business school, provided all other attributes (GMAT, GPA, EC, Work Experience, etc) are equal? Will a preference be given to those living in impoverished areas? Or is affirmative action based on race alone?

Examples:

-Someone living in the Upper East Side vs. someone living in Harlem
-Someone living in Beverly Hills vs. someone living in East LA
-Someone living in Lincoln Park vs. someone living in the South Side of Chicago
etc

No, ZIP code doesn't matter at all. There is always the looming question of how much your gender or your ethnic background will impact your chances of admission (often, the impact is greater than admissions officers like to admit), but your ZIP code won't have any impact on your chances.

Where you're coming from does matter (e.g., no school wants 100% New Yorkers), but admissions officers are simply too busy to worry about whether you live in Harlem or the Upper East Side.

Good luck!
