Don intended to place a mark 2 1/4 inches from one end of a narrow road 9 1/4 inches long, but he mistakenly placed the mark 2 1/4 inches from the other end of the road. How far, in inches, is his mark from the location where he intended to place it?

I interpret 2 1/4 inches to either be past the 9 1/4 inches or 2.25 inches before 9.25 inches, which is right

9.25-2*2.25=9.25-4.5=4.75 inches

Here's my take on it:

" Don intended to place a mark 2 1/4 inches from one end of a narrow road 9 1/4 inches long "

Where does that narrow end begin?

They do not specify at O or at 1, that's my problem with it.
