I take C over A because "they were" in A and B is passive.

'traveling the back roads of Hungary armed only'-> Isn't this run on sentence?

A - 'in 1905 Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly ' needs a comma after 1905
C - 'n 1905 Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly' needs a comma after 1905
D - same problem as A
E - 'in 1905 began their pioneering work' need a comma after 1905, sentence is also awkward

I'll take B

the comma after 'in 1905' is absolutely necessary? It doesn't seem like imperative to me......What do you think? and What is OA?
