Question Stats:

0% (00:00) correct 0% (00:00) wrong based on 0 sessions
Dr. A: The new influenza vaccine is useless at best and possibly dangerous. I would never use it on a patient.
Dr. B: But three studies published in the Journal of Medical Associates have rated that vaccine as unusually effective.
Dr. A: The studies must have been faulty because the vaccine is worthless.
In which of the following is the reasoning most similar to that of Dr. A?
(A) Three of my patients have been harmed by that vaccine during the past three weeks, so the vaccine is unsafe.
(B) Jerrold Jersey recommends this milk, and I don’t trust Jerrold Jersey, so I won’t buy this milk.
(C) Wingzz tennis balls perform best because they are far more effective than any other tennis balls.
(D) I’m buying Vim Vitamins. Doctors recommend them more often than they recommend any other vitamins, so Vim Vitamins must be good.
(E) Since University of Muldoon graduates score about 20 percent higher than average on the GMAT, Sheila Lee, a University of Muldoon graduate, will score about 20 percent higher than average when she takes the GMAT.

Dr.A.: [A] is bad. If [B] states that [A] is not bad, [B] is wrong.

(A) Three of my patients have been harmed by that vaccine during the past three weeks, so the vaccine is unsafe. - out
(B) Jerrold Jersey recommends this milk, and I don’t trust Jerrold Jersey, so I won’t buy this milk. - out. it should be "I won’t buy this milk, so I don’t trust Jerrold Jersey"
(C) Wingzz tennis balls perform best because they are far more effective than any other tennis balls. - out. There are no any comparison of a new vaccine with other ones
(D) I’m buying Vim Vitamins. Doctors recommend them more often than they recommend any other vitamins, so Vim Vitamins must be good. - out.
(E) Since University of Muldoon graduates score about 20 percent higher than average on the GMAT, Sheila Lee, a University of Muldoon graduate, will score about 20 percent higher than average when she takes the GMAT. - out

A,B,D are contradict directly to the reasoning of Dr.A
C (no comparison) ,E (no general group) is out of scope.

Maybe "the reasoning most similar to" not "the same" is a key here. Among C and E, C looks better.

I picked C when I did this, I think I got lucky. But it took me 4 minutes total.
(the timer by Walker is coming handy...thanks dude)

I really got this by POE, but that too I went with a hunch and need explanation myself.

The way I see this is,

Dr A has already decided for himself that Vaccine is bad and he will refute anything on the contrary...so there is some irrationality/prejudice in his arguments...I found that same irrationality only in C.

B was tricky but it still has some logical premise about not liking Jerold Jersey.

Disclaimer: As good as I am at CR, my explanation in no way should be construed to have any logic.

This is straight circular reasoning.

You are trying to prove something is true and using that same truth as a reason why it is true.

A is saying that the drug is worthless, and his reasoning is that it is useless and dangerous

so drug is worthless? why because it is useless, same thing

C) Wingzz tennis balls perform best because they are far more effective than any other tennis balls.

this is the most concise - they perform best because they are effective same logic good because they are good

I chose C too.

I think the DR A's logic has the same flaw as the logic in C. It doesn't explain in detail, the reason why he thinks the vaccines are useless.
