Question Stats:

30% (02:10) correct 70% (01:41) wrong based on 12 sessions
14. Dr. A: The new influenza vaccine is useless at best and possibly dangerous. I would never use it on a patient.
Dr. B: But three studies published in the Journal of Medical Associates have rated that vaccine as unusually effective.
Dr. A: The studies must have been faulty because the vaccine is worthless.
In which of the following is the reasoning most similar to that of Dr. A?
(A) Three of my patients have been harmed by that vaccine during the past three weeks, so the vaccine is unsafe.
(B) Jerrold Jersey recommends this milk, and I don’t trust Jerrold Jersey, so I won’t buy this milk.
(C) Wingzz tennis balls perform best because they are far more effective than any other tennis balls.
(D) I’m buying Vim Vitamins. Doctors recommend them more often than they recommend any other vitamins, so Vim Vitamins must be good.
(E) Since University of Muldoon graduates score about 20 percent higher than average on the GMAT, Sheila Lee, a University of Muldoon graduate, will score about 20 percent higher than average when she takes the GMAT.

this one's really tough. I'll go with C, looks like a cause and effect type reasoning.
X is true because Y is true (assumption).

I will go with B

There are 3 parts to the question :- A does not want to buy something , B recommends , A thinks recommendation is faulty and does not want to buy

(B) Jerrold Jersey recommends this milk, and I don’t trust Jerrold Jersey, so I won’t buy this milk. - fits nicely in the context

C sounds better because a judgement is made first and then the judgement is used
to invalidate the proofs when it shoud be the other way around

C for me too (have seen this before)..

circular reasoning..
"it is good". why? "coz it is good" :)
same for the dr. "vaccine is worthless". but studies rated otherwise. "studies are b.s. coz vaccine is useless"

Here is another example of fallacy on similar lines (brought a smile as I was imagining my b-school reference):
Interviewer: "Your resume looks impressive but I need another reference."
Bill: "Jill can give me a good reference."
Interviewer: "Good. But how do I know that Jill is trustworthy?"
Bill: "Certainly. I can vouch for her."

I agree with ichha148. It is reasoned in this way. I will go with B.
