Is it A.

most of the other choices C and D, uses the passive voice thus my reason for dismissing them

E is awkward

C for me.

"dating to" seems to modify "tanzania" in A and B.

D - run on sentence (excludes a "comma" before "and".)
E awkard construction.

A) and B) is unclear because it is not sure what "dating" modifies

C) is better

dating to....is a participle phrase and modifies the entire sentences that precedes it...so I think it is fine.

although it modifies the entire sentence, you cannot be sure which part it modifies. is it tanzania or the fossils. both are in the entire sentence.

I am with (C).

(A) does not link the two portion properly (in meaning). However, it is gramatically correct.
All other choices except (C) are having Passive Construction.

(C) resolves the issue by changing the passive portion into Past Participle Phrase.

(A) Dr. Mary Leakey found teeth and jawbones in Tanzania dating to 3.75 millIon years ago, and they are the oldest reliably dated human fossils.
- Want dating to 3.75 million yrs ago to stick close to the nouns it modify.

(B) The oldest reliably dated human fossils were found by Dr. Mary Leakey in Tanzania, dating to 3.75 million years ago.
- Want dating to 3.75 million yrs ago to stick close to the nouns it modify.

(C) The teeth and jawbones found in Tanzania by Dr. Mary Leakey and dating to 3.75 millIon years ago are the oldest reliably dated human fossils.
- Sentence can be read as 'the teeth and jawbones found in Tanzania' by two people. 1 - Dr Mary Leakey, 2. - dating to 3.75 million yrs ago (which is absurd). C is out.

(D) In Tanzania, the teeth and jawbones found by Dr. Mary Leakey date to 3.75 millIon years ago and are the oldest reliably dated human fossils.
- I'll go with this. It says in the teethe and jawbones are found in Tanzania, by only 1 person - Dr Mary, it dates to 3.75 million yrs ago, and are THE oldest reliably dated human fossil.

(E) In Tanzania and dating to 3.75 million years ago are the oldest reliably dated human fossils, found by Dr. Mary Leakey.
- Suggests the bones are found in two places, 1 - Tanzania, 2- dating to 3.75 millions yrs ago (absurd!)

I'll not join the rest, and go with choice (D)

Hi, choice D offends the lethal parallel principle.
D) In Tanzania, the teeth and jawbones found by Dr. Mary Leakey date to 3.75 millIon years ago and are the oldest reliably dated human fossils.

'found' is past participle, not verb.

go with C.

The teeth and jawbones found in Tanzania by Dr. Mary Leakey and (the teeth and jawbones)dating to 3.75 millIon years ago are the oldest reliably dated human fossils.

two participles 'found' and 'dating' are parallel.
