(A) it is

(1) n^2/36 = (n x n)/(6 x 6) = interger
=> n is divisible by 6
=> n is divisible by 3
=> suff

(2) 144/n^2 = (12 x 12)/(n x n)
=> 12 is divisible by n
=> n can be 12, 6, 3, 4, 1 (4 & 1 are not divisible by 3)
=> insuff

Hence, (A)

kirakira, can you explain why from "(n x n)/(a x a) = int" follows that n is divisible by a?

If a square is divisible by a square, the quotient is always a square. Hence:

(n x n)/(a x a) = b x b
=> n x n = (a x a)(b x b)
=> n = a x b
=> n is divisible by a

IMHO, the conclusions made from st (1) and st (2) are different however both are sufficient. Could anybody explain why it is so?
