stmnt1 - x= 2 y = 0 then x + y > 0 and x>y
x= 1 and y =2 then x + y > 0 and x<y hence insuff

stmnt2 - x= 2 and y = 0 then x^2–y^2> 0 and x>y
x= -5 and y = 4 then x^2–y^2> 0 but x<y hence insuff

taking both together we have x + y > 0 and x^2–y^2> 0
==> x^2–y^2> 0 = (x+y)(x-y) > 0
==> we have (x+y) is >0 so x-y>0 or x>y. hence C
