[quote="gmathopful"]Sorry read the question as

If a + b= 200 and b > a , is a+b > c + d ?
(1) c + d <200> 300-b ?
=>a+2b>300 ?

as b>a, equation always holds true

=> (2) is suff

Hi,
Please note that from stem b>100 and then in stmnt 2 c+d<200 as it is given that b+c+d=300

I'm curious to know logic of how you came to a+2b>300 ( is it because b>100 , as pointed by BG) .

And Thanks all. I missed part of deriving that a+b =200 means that one of the number needs to be > 100

(1) c + d <200> a, this means that b > 100
c+d = 300-b then c+d < 200 which is the statement1. Hence SUFF

Answer is 'D'

If a + b= 200 and b > a , is a+b > c + d ?
(1) c + d <200> a. this means that b >= 101

The main question can be reduced to is 200 > (c + d)

(1) is SUFF

for (2) we have b + c + d = 300. Since b > 101 this means (c + d) <= 199

Hence SUFF

So answer is D

The question is asking if c+d is less than 200.

St1: Answers that question. Good.

St2:
a+b = 200
a = 200-b

We know b cannot be 100, since that will result in a+b. In order for b to be greater than a, b must be at least 101. so b >= 101.

c+d = 300-b
If b is 101, then C+d = 199, which is less than 200. Sufficient.
