Well if GMAT is the only issue in one's profile, then disclosing it in the app might not be a bad thing.

http://poetsandquants.com/2011/11/02/ho ... -overcome/

"While the 490 score in this fall’s entering class at Harvard is stunningly low, it’s not the lowest successful B-school candidate Bauer has seen. His firm, for example, helped a Wall Street analyst gain admission to a top-10 Ivy League business school despite a 410 GMAT after taking the exam five separate times. Making it even more difficult, the candidate had a modest 3.0 GPA in a non-quant undergrad major.

However, says Bauer, “he was an overachiever in every other aspect of his life, but learning abilities made the GMAT an insurmountable challenge. Our overall strategy for him was to confront his GMAT difficulties head-on, with candor and conviction, defining his candidacy as much more than the GMAT. More specifically, we encouraged him to: 1) provide third-party documentation of his learning disability, 2) meet with and earn the endorsement of a specialist in learning disabilities at the targeted university, 3) meet face-to-face with the MBA admissions director to tell his story in human terms, 4) produce amazing essays that focused inordinately on the “personal” and “academic” rather than the ”professional” aspects of his candidacy, and 4) persevere by reapplying after being rejected once.”

I am a Rd3 applicant with a very low GMAT (low 600s). I also have been diagnosed with ADHD by a professional. Do you think it will be safe to disclose it to the adcom committee? What's Duke's policy on that? I have never taken the GMAT under special conditions, but now seriously considering it. Rest of my profile pretty strong, i think.

Just wanted to hear from the experts on this forum.

I would be leery of revealing that I had ADHD, especially if you're using it to say that's why you didn't do well on X, Y, or Z. The first question they'll ask themselves is "Will he be able to handle our MBA program then?" You don't want to tell them that you're not good at something without explaining how you've overcome it, and I don't see ADHD as something you just "overcome." I'd say you're better off retaking the GMAT with special conditions.

Important note: schools cannot discriminate based on disability, so it would in fact be illegal to reject you for this reason, but your low GMAT is reason in and of itself, so I wouldn't give them any more reason. That said, I am NOT AN EXPERT. I just want you to consider all sides and maybe call them yourself (without revealing your name).

I agree with Machichi's point - don't use the ADHD as an excuse for poor performance. Because if this is your explanation for the low GMAT, then it sounds like you haven't overcome the ADHD because the GMAT was so recent. That will raise questions in the minds of the adcom members.

Rocket no need to answer, but did your doc prescribe you meds? For me meds have certainly made me more focused and less hyperactive, so it's possible to overcome ADHD to some extent. They definitely helped me study efficiently for the GMAT, and they help me focus at work. I wish my insurance had covered ADHD during my undergrad.

Does anyone know how many people who were invited to interview finally got admitted in R1 and EA? What's the percentage?

Just some advice, if you're going to take meds for the test, take all of your practice test under the same conditions... Everyone reacts differently to them, and you may end up with an adverse reaction. Good luck!

Boo hiss boo. Seriously though, I've looked them up. Fuqua has employment broken out by number of offers per company. Darden only has the employment broken out by industry and salary, and they have a list of companies that recruit. Darden also has listed on the website that 29% go into consulting, but on the 2011/12 employment report it says 20% went into consulting.

I'm looking for input from current students or people who have thoughts beyond the published reports. For example, at Fuqua or Darden, what portion of those gunning for mbb jobs actually get them. Y'know stuff like that.
Although I think differences in student composition, school reputation, etc. may have some influence between Fuqua and Darden, I doubt the difference is significant. The main contributor to your probability of landing a job at M/B/B is you.

Thank you for the input asimov. While you were at Fuqua, did you find that most people who were seeking m/b/b employment were at least able to get interviews?

Sorry to sound like an ass but standardized tests should be just that. I don't think it's fair to get extra time, everyone could do significantly better with extra time. Special accommodations defeats the point of a standardize test

Agreed. The meds can have some really annoying side effects - especially initially. I took them every day while I was studying so I was very used to them when test day rolled around, but you can also just take them situationally. Either way make sure you get the dosage figured out ahead of time and practice under the same conditions as highwyre said.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Does anyone know how decisions are released? Are they only released on the deadline or do they start coming out a few days before? Do decisions come by calls or e-mail?

thank you.

From what I saw before, they will send an email on the 18th saying the decision has been reached and you click a link (you'll need your application login information) to see the final notice.

I think they call you the next day.

That's right, except calls from your interviewer and your student Fuqua Buddy may take up to a week or two. It depends on their schedule. They also might call from their cell phone so it won't necessarily be a 919 area code.

I applied to Fuqua EA and Kenan-Flagler round 2. I was WL at Fuqua but admitted to KF. Fuqua is my top choice and so I am wondering if I should let them know about my status at KF. Does that carry any weight or is it erroneous?

Its been debated... but I doubt it will. On a positive note, you'll have the ability to stick the WL out much longer then most of us. You'll be going to that area on way or another, so... if they let you in right before orientation, you'll still be able to say yes.

Ross will start to call from next Tuesday. I though Fuqua would do the same thing and i can relieved earlier. It seems like i have to wait to the last day.

good luck everyone.
