I would go with D.

A - Seems to say that the estimation was done in the 1980s
B - Seems to say that the estimation was done in the 1980s
C - Too long
D - Correct.
E - Too long.

Adding is preferable over and added coz it emphasizes the deteriorating result from the action in the first clause.
