E-MBA help [#permalink] New post 27 Jun 2005, 14:49
Hi,

I am intrested in doing a Executive MBA from Berkely/Warthon, but I am not sure if they accept software engineers or ONLY managers.

I have about 11 years of solid development experience, but its in individual role.

Do these colleges require a prior 'n' number of years in management for E-MBA ?

Thanks.
Bob

Not necessarily. I know someone who recently did the executive program at Wharton, and she had a software background, with not a whole lot of pure "management" experience. Have you managed a team or some people in any capacity, even if your title wasn't "Manager"?

I have had some experience managing a small team early in my career, but most of my career has been in individual role.

Not sure how it will be taken. both the programs mention some kind of leadership role, I assume they mean management roles ?

It doesn't necessarily have to be management roles in your company. That's the most obvious thing that they look for, but they definitely also value leadership experiences anywhere. To make up an example, you don't regularly lead/manage a team at work, but maybe you regularly lead fund-raising events for your church. Schools look for people who take initiative and lead others, even if it's not part of their regular job description.

Does that help? Do any of your outside-of-work experiences sound like that?
