A. Each of the fallen soldiers – Henry Johnson, Paul Rider, Brent Hall and Bob McCay - were hard workers B. can someone please explain the correct choice ( and probably the use of hyphen to get to that choice) The stuff between hyphen are just serve the purpose of modification. Choice A Each....were does not agree. Each is singular. Choice B again each...were does not agree Choice C is correct Fallen soldiers...were Choice D seems missing a verb Choice E seems missing a verb as well

I basically agree with eileen, but I have a different suggestion why B is not correct. The "were" is ok there, but the sentence would have to be "Henry Johnson, Paul Rider, Brent Hall and Bob McCay - each of them a fallen soldier – were hard workers" to be correct.

I was confused why "B" was OK to me. Thanks for clarifying.
