Eating beets significantly lowers the risk of cancer, according to an article in a nutritional magazine. The article refers to a study that found that people who consumed one or more beets per day were half as likely to be diagnosed with the disease as people who did not. Now let's look at the answer choice:
A. is Incorrect as we are just concerned with Beets. So, it is out of scope.
B. is incorrect as it strengthens the arguments.
C. is Incorrect. Even if the study is conducted in one city, claim can still be made. Out of Scope.
D. is Incorrect as our target group is people are yet to diagnose. Out of scope.
E. is Correct as it points to 2nd point mentioned in the Assumption. It provides a possibility in which physical exercise is responsible for lower diagnose and not eating beets.

D is wrong because the premise says "beets consumption reduces the likely hood of getting cancer" NOT curing cancer.
E works well here.

though i got answer E as correct but i just want to know, in such Cause and effect weaken questions, where survey is involved, if we weaken the basis of the stats the argument gets weakened. Hence if we target the restrictive sample (only one city was used) wont it weaken the argument.

But here if we say "study was done in 1 city" the beet hypothesis still holds. Cheers

Cheers Hi JP agreed to ur view, but when the option says study was done only in one city, than doesnt that mean , study was more restrictive, and it can't be generalized. But yes its not mentioned how big was that city.......may be equal to the size of any other state. If the above estimation is true than it cant be used to undermine.
