effect of msc finance on mba application? [#permalink] New post 28 Mar 2010, 07:10
I was wondering if someone can guide me- i'm planning to pursue a msc finance, what effect will that have on my mba application? I already have a one year mba from a small country, and now i plan to do a msc from a prestigious university. If i apply for mba after a couple of years, will i be rejected on the basis that i don't really need an mba?

Yes it will -- not the MSc in and of itself, but the fact that you would already have two masters degrees in a business discipline (MBA and MSc) will cause an adcom to wonder why you are collecting credentials.

thank you Alex. So what should I do? pass on the msc finance and get more work experience and then try for an mba after a couple of years. I honestly think an mba will suit my needs more than an msc finance.

Work for a couple of years, and then decide then whether you even need another MBA (or maybe you may work longer and not need one at all, or maybe go back for an exec MBA type program).

In any case, just focus on getting work experience for now.
