Entrepreneur Experience? [#permalink]
17 Aug 2007, 18:27
Hey all,
a friend of mine that's an entrepreneur is trying to talk me into helping a company he's working with out in the near term. He says there'll be a huge amount of stuff I can talk about in my essays if I helped out, which I don't doubt at all.
The only problems I have with doing that in the near future is:
1. My life is consumed with B-school apps, essay writing, visiting schools, and interviewing students/alums. I really don't have time outside of work and that to help out (for free).
2. I'm afraid it'll look way too transparent to the adcom to talk about something I just started after I began my application process. While my intentions may be honest (I do want to jump into entrepreneurship sometime and this is the first chance ever offered to me), I don't want it to look like I'm the type of person who starts volunteering so I can put it on my resume.
Just wanted to see if others agreed with my reasoning for telling my friend that I'll probably consider it early next year. Worse comes to worse, if I don't get into any school, I have one or two startup type jobs lined up I can switch to and "learn" entrepreneurship myself. So I guess that's good =)

Ya,
Dont blow him off. spend $3 and listen to his story at Starbucks.
Tell him you wont have free time this year, but next year onwards you could help him out.
Or else if the proposition is mouth watering, jump in, and sew it in your essay, but dont add too much emphasis on it - kinda hard to do so

I like the Starbucks tip... but to be realistic, I will probably tell him next spring (after I get into all the schools of course! )

This would be a better idea.
