Do they really want to hear "um..I work extremely hard and for myself but I just haven't found what I want to do. Yes yes -- I have 2 or 3 different companies I COULD start right now, but they all kind of -- bore me (i.e. staffing firm, sales of item X, etc..)! I'm really hoping an MBA will give me exposure to different fields and bright minds and hopefully I can form a strong team and start a company fresh out of school."
Write that and I have a feeling you'll get butchered! I second the notions that you need to have a clearer picture for admissions. If you could start a dream company today, what would it be? What are you passionate about? Questions like these will help you narrow it in.
Longer term, great companies typically have a leader who is completely devoted to the cause. How do you expect to recruit a number of your brilliant classmates without a driving force in your life? They won't pass on the established routes to suffer the risks of entrepreneurship on a half-hearted mission, which people can sense pretty quickly. Something to think about beyond the admissions cycle! I would encourage you to really reflect on what you stand for beyond self-employment and dollars.
