Which career is the most common post b-school for ex-accountants? Is it one of the above, or is there another one that I am not thinking of?

You are missing consulting.

But IB of the two will be more likely; it is a simple odds game - there are 100 summer associates at a bank to maybe 10 research associates. It says nothing about what suits you better, more what is available. The accountants I met mostly seemed to have more interest in research.

Oh yes, consulting.

That makes sense. I was trying to think of my approach for the application. I know that adcoms are concerned about placement, which for a career switcher is slightly difficult. If I were to spin my goals towards i-banking rather than research, would that give me an advantage, or would it be the same? I know that i-banking experience could potentially get me into an emerging market fund management position down the line anyway, which is what I ultimately would like to do, so I can use either the research path, or the i-banking path...I was just hoping to figure out which would benefit me more from an essays standpoint.
