Erin travels 42 mile to and from work along the same route. One morning, she averaged a speed of 45mph going to work and and 67.5 mph coming home. What is the average speed for the round trip?

Pls help me break it down. Thanx.

ok this is how i would approach it:

this formula is fundamental => d = rt or r = d/t or t = d/r

1) going to work:
d1 = 42mi
r1 = 45mph
t1 = ?
first find the time:
t1 = d1/r1
= 42/45

2) going from work:
d2 = 42mi
r2 = 67.5mph
t2 = ?
first find the time:
t2 = d2/r2
= 42/67.5

combining the two:
r1+r2 = (d1+d2)/(t1+t2)
= (42+42)/ (42/45 + 42/67.5)
= 84 / (14/15 + 42/67.5)
= 84/ [(14*9) + (42*2)]/135
= 84/ (210/135)
= 54 mph
