ESSEC MS Financial Techniques vs St.Gallen MBA [#permalink]
11 Jun 2012, 09:31
Hi. I'm a software engineer from a Southeast Asian country wanting to switch career into finance (asset management or investment banking, preferably). I would prefer to work in Western Europe but Singapore or HK would be OK.
I got accepted into ESSEC's Advanced Master in Financial Techniques (Asia track) and got a partial scholarship. My application into St. Gallen's MBA is still being processed but I may have a decent shot at the scholarship. Assuming that I get the St Gallen scholarship as well, which program would be better?
ESSEC pros: ranked #3 by FT very quantitative very international (1 term in France, 1 term in SG, study trips to London & HK)
ESSEC cons: targeted for Asia, tougher to get a job in Europe Advanced Master degree is not as widely known as an MBA
St Gallen pros: Best chance to get a job in Switzerland Prestigious in the German-speaking world (strongest economy in Europe) learn some German language
St Gallen cons: low ranking
Any thoughts or useful links? Thanks.

I got the scholarship for St Gallen as well but I think I'll stick with ESSEC. My chances of landing a job in finance seems higher with ESSEC.
I still got until next week to finalize things so I'd appreciate any useful info, especially regarding recruitment prospects.

I went to ESSEC for my exchange and the school is EXTREMELY well connected to European firms. Their career services are among the best in the world.

Hi guys Is it possible to finish the Essec without learning French? I know it is impossible to find a job in France without french. To tell the truth, what appeals to me is studyidng in singapore and i am mostly interested in working there after graduation. (You think its a good idea?) Could you please share, if you know, how many graduates get a good job in singapore and how possible is that to find a job there after graduating from advanced master in financial techniques? Thanks
