HBS asks candidates to enter their estimated rank among their peers at school. How do you go about finding such information? It's been some time since I was in school and last I remember, most people hold their grades close to their chest. Should I contact my school for this information?

You can, they may or may not give you the information.

I think must public schools don't even have a rank. If you don't know it I don't think it's a big deal. I went to a large public 25K+ and we definitely don't have rankings.

I had asked my school for my rank upon graduation and they said they don't keep track of it. So I just omitted the rank field in my apps.
