Europeean B Schools Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
07 Apr 2012, 23:52
Hello,
I am an Indian guy (25.5 years)with close to 3.5 years experience till date. I have experience in the marketing field and also running my own successful venture for a couple of years. Excellent acads till date, low extra curriculars. GMAT - 640 mostly due to a bad verbal day, but got a 8.5 on ielts. I would love to work in Europe for 2-3 of years after graduation and then move back to entrepreneurship...maybe kickstart a new venture.
I am confused between the following:
1. Should I go for Masters or MBA- I have an interview shortlist for the Grand Ecoles ALL schools and am applying for MBA as well at some. 2. Already accepted for the WHU program, however, it being last minute I was unable to get the visa processed for their Apr 2012 start date 3. Already applied to EMLYON and HHL Leipzig. The target schools I have in mind are Mannheim, ESMT, RSM Erasmus 4. I am looking for good networking and decent scholarships if available, at the schools I will apply 5. Is it worth applying to the UK schools, with the visa restrictions effective from Apr 2012.
Considering my profile and career goals, which school might be ideal for me? Any other tips, especially from someone who is studying or currently studying there will be extremely useful
Thanks Salil

The schools you targeted are quite regional, not familiar with most of them actually!
The masters of management programs in Europe have an average age of 22 so they are designed for fresh graduates usually.
The masters in finance at the better schools have an average age of 29-31 and are very competitive like at LBS.
I would focus on getting an MBA. Also for your worries about visa restrictions in the U.K, if you end up going to LBS, Oxford, Cambridge, you will get a visa, admissions representatives have broken down the new visa restrictions but are confident in being able to help acquire the new visas for any students who wish to work in the U.K.
My recommendation, especially for the regional European schools you are targeting, ask to see if they can provide you with an employment report of past graduates, how many were hired and where by graduation, what the salary was. This is key information you need before making the decision since the costs for a regional MBA in Europe are almost the same as the top MBAs so you need to make an informed choice.

Thanks Salil Hello, If scholarship is not your biggest concern, and entrepreneurship is your passion, i would suggest you to check IE. Your GMAT might be lower than the average of the class, but you can take their internal test and you can scream about your work experience in your essays. IE is a great school for entrepreneurship, if you have any question about the IE internal test, please PM me, i might give you a very rough outlook of what it is all about Good Luck

Thanks Salil Hi Salil, From what I gather your studying requirements could be- you are already running a business successfully. You need an overall business perspective to manage it better and grow it bigger. An MBA degree will definately give you the edge compared to a specialist masters degree or a masters in management course, which is directed at early career students. Doing MBA from Europe would make sense for you as the format is generally for one year programs, and I doubt you would want to be away from work for much longer. But you can also consider Singapore based b-schools like NUS, NTU. Infact you can relate the choice of location to the region where you hope to be present in, in the future. Building a network within that area (the MBA will help you here) will be a great advantage.
