Evaluation for atypical applicant-focus on language/imba [#permalink] New post 05 Jan 2012, 14:11
Hi forum,

Just got back from taking my first gmat and scored a q36v42 for a 650 overall. My cumulative gpa was a 2.7 from UT- Austin, with a 3.4 in both my major and last 60 hours. I am a native English speaker with a degree in Chinese and I am fluent in Mandarin. My work experience is limited to teaching in China for 3 years.

Given the scores above, what do my chances look like for getting into a tier 2 MBA/IMBA program? I'm looking strongly at Moore (South Carolina), McCombs, Tepper (reach), Katz, and Thunderbird as a fall back. Are there any other programs I haven't listed that would suit my profile? I am also not ruling out working for an additional year then applying in 2013

Thanks very much in advance.

What do you want to do after your MBA? What job + industry? US or foreign placement?

I'd say your score would be in line for the schools that you mentioned. The teaching in China would definitely be considered as atypical pre-MBA work experience, which could be an advantage.
