Evaluation Please...Finishing JD, Thinking of Pursuing MBA [#permalink] New post 06 Nov 2011, 15:46
Hi there,

So I am graduating law school this year from a T14 school. I am most likely going to be taking a litigation position in a mid-size to large firm but would eventually like to get my MBA. My UGPA is 2.97 (too much partying at a good state school) but I am on pace to graduate with honors this year (3.65 law school GPA...which I feel is better than it looks considering the curves that were applied). I have taken the GMAT but only scored a 590. I didn't study for it and took it on a whim as a 1L in law school because my first school (not the T14 - I am a transfer student) basically said if you take it you will be accepted into the joint degree program no questions asked. I am confident in my ability to increase my score. I would like to attend Booth or Kellogg or possibly Carlson in the Twin Cities. I guess my main concern is knowing what my GMAT would have to be to be competitive at either Booth or Kellogg or get a significant scholarship to Carlson. Also, will admissions factor in my recently demonstrated success in law school (and forget about my UGPA)? Any advice would be great! Thanks

Hi jdmbagoodidea,

For your GMAT score at Booth and Kellogg, you should aim to score at least a 700. Your GMAT score is self-reported on your application, so admissions teams will focus on your highest score.

One of the biggest questions you will need to answer is "Why an MBA?" Admissions teams will want to know the answer to this considering your pursuit of a law degree.

Additionally, here is some school specific advice for Kellogg and Booth:
