Hi Admissionado,

Would appreciate if you could evaluate my chances based on:

Background: 27 years-old male from Hong Kong (will that be treated as China from the adcom perspective?)
GMAT: 670 (plan to retake till got 700+)
When to apply: 2014 Q1
Target MBA: INSEAD (preferred), LBS and Kellogg 1Y
Education: MS Finance from a top UK business school (with distinction, top 5% of class); Bachelor degree from Hong Kong (GPA 3.6, 2 times dean list for last 2 years)
Work experience: 2 years corporate development with a startup marketing firm, 2 years with a top HR consulting firm (rewards consulting)
Certification: CFA and FRM
Extra curricular: Diversity council committee (only non management from HK office) at work, captain of a amateur basketball team, Chairman of PE society at school
Language: Fluent in Chinese and English
ST Career aspiration: Strategy consulting with MBB or 2nd tier (e.g. Booz, OW, ATK, LEK, OC&C and RB) in Asia
LT Career aspiration: Private Equity in China or stay as a consultant (aim partner)

Thank you so much ahead.

Regards,

Hey Jack, well everything in your profile (besides the GMAT) seems to be in order.. so you are for sure right for concentrating on that aspect of your profile at this point.

Now, besides your industry I didn't really get a feel for your success within your industry, and that will of course be important to evaluate your profile precisely. Nonetheless, I think that a lot of your ability to make it into these very competitive programs will be your ability to tell a compelling story.

I'm assuming you will get the GMAT you need, but still from China/HK there are a LOT of other excellent candidates.. so what makes you DIFFERENT? If you can make that shine for the adcom, then you will have a much better shot.
