Schools:
Really want to get my degree online because I am restricted to Virginia right now, but am also considering schools not that far away. Considering Arizona State(Carey), Indiana University(Kelley), University of Florida(Hough), University of Texas-Dallas, University of Maryland(Smith), and Georgetown. These schools are lower ranked, somewhere around the 20s and lower.

I really want to start January 2010 for the online programs because they have Spring admission, but I am worried because I haven't taken the GMAT yet and my GPA is really low. The deadlines for Spring 2010 admissions are in Oct. and Nov. Being that I haven't takent the GMAT yet and deadlines are coming really soon, should I just wait until Fall 2010 to apply? Do I even have a chance getting into the schools that I mentioned? What are your suggestions? I have purchased the 11th edition of the official GMAT guide and other study material. Would I be pushing it if I tried to apply in the Spring? Maybe some of you could even look at the schools I mentioned and tell me what you think I would have to do to be accepted to these programs. I am open to any advice/suggestions from anyone. Thanks for all of your help!

Round 2 is in january for most schools so you still have time. Although you have a great story being an athlete and being a minority would really help your application. With that said, you would probably need a GMAT score that is more competitive being both younger than most applicants and your below average GPA.

Arizona St? if you are concidering Arizona state, you pretty much are concidering the whole country.

That was in response to: "Really want to get my degree online because I am restricted to Virginia right now, but am also considering schools not that far away. Considering Arizona State(Carey), "

If you concider Arizona clost to Virginia then you really are open to quiet a good range of schools.

I think for Georgetown or for Kelley you'll need a higher score than 620. Try to shoot over 600 at least in order to be competitive.

IMO, you'd be better served working for an extra year, studying and doing well on your GMAT, and applying early to these same schools (or others) next year.

- undoubtedly, any school will wonder "why is a 22 year old so intent on getting her MBA? why can't she wait until she's 23? 24?
- there are very few people who can take the GMAT with little preparation and do well. it's best to dedicate some time to it (especially if you have a fulltime job), take several practice tests so you get familiar with the concepts, and then take it once and do as best you can
- if you wait an extra year, you'll have at least 2 years of work experience when you go in, which seems to be the minimal threshold for many schools

i'd say study for the gmats (use this forum as a great resource), do as best you can, and apply to the same schools next year. who knows - you might overachieve on the GMAT, and it might open up a whole new list of schools to apply to - or at the very least, it should make you much more competitive at your presently considered schools, thereby giving you more chances to get $$$ from them
