Hi ,

Male 26 Years old
Mechanical Engineer- BIT Mesra (Top 10 Engineering school in India)
GPA :3.3
GMAT:570 ( Assuming will improve to around 670-700 in the next attempt)

Work Experience:(Total 4 Years)

1) 2 years as a Sales Engineer(in India) at a prominent US Manufacturing company (Timken) (2009 Revenue-$4.5 billion)
Worked as a techno commercial guy. Prominent responsibilities included interaction with decision makers at prominent industries in the area for business development. Responsible for marketing and establishment of new strategic products for Power plants and Steel manufacturers.

2) Left the job to handle my family Business(1.5 Years) in India. I always wanted to be an enterprenuer & therefore this decision.Responsible for complete management of the business ( from raw material purchase to Finished products).

3) Lack of professionalism & systems in my family business lead to saturation. To get more exposure & business knowledge I left my country to join a company which is in the same business as my family business. Currently here for (6 months).

Why MBA at this point in my Life?

To get more international exposure, networking, Strategic & financial know-how etc etc.

My short terms goals are to work in the marketing department of a consumer products company such as (HUL, P&G etc.) .
Long term goal includes coming back to my native land(India/asia) & become an enterprenuer.

Extra curricular :
Active involvment in managing a school run by Rotary Club. Active member of Rotary Club in my native town.
Active member of a local community involved in Cleaning the local river
Member of organizing committee of various clubs in college
Avid reader, Badminton player.

Schools : Indiana (kelly), MSU (Broad), NUS (singapore), NTU (singapore), HKUST (hongkong).

Supposing that I score 700 on GMAT do i have a chance at the above schools.

With a 700, you'd be within shooting range!

But please tell u a bit about your family business. Family business profiles can be very strong, especially if your family business is BIG. so tell us a bit about it - the industry, how many people,w hat you have done, and we can better see where you stand.

My family business is into textiles. We manufacture yarn. We export our yarns to different parts of the world. Its definitely a traditional business. Nothing very innovative. But i must say to run this kind of spinning unit u definitely need to have a good management. I have learned about various control measures & tools which the top management uses to run the mill. It is a low margin high volume business.the turnover is around $ 25 M. But i don't want to continue this business into future. I think this is also one of the reasons that I want to do an MBA. I want more exposure & like minded people to do something new.

Thanks for taking interest. Does my story looks inconsistent? Pls comment

Well, whether or not you might want to continue with your family business is something you can think about AFTER you get in ;).

But reconsider presenting the Adcom with goals related to your family business, as this is likely to help out your chances (and that's your mission, dude, to get IN!)
