A. that no less than a major debacle can ( Comparison should be - lesser than/greater than - wrong )
B. that nothing other than a major debacle will ( too wordy )
C. that only a mojor debacle will ( that only - two limiters nearby, it is not acceptable - wrong )
D. that a mere major debacle would - Correct Answer.
E. if only a major debacle could ( if condition not satisfied over here - wrong )

My option is - D)

I go with D as well... C and E puts a constraint on the statement by saying "only" a major debacle can upset the apple cart of australia's present successive victory..

A. that no less than a major debacle can [no less is awkward]
B. that nothing other than a major debacle will [nothing other is awkward and wordy]
C. that only a major debacle will
D. that a mere major debacle would [changes the meaning]
E. if only a major debacle could [awkward with rest of sentece]

by method of elimination will go for C

A & B are wordy. E makes the sentence incomplete. Choices between C & D - would choose C since it's more succinct.

Is it A? Can vs. will vs. could vs. would: "Can" wins because
upset the apple cart of Australia's present successive victories.
