(A) Even though its per capita food supply hardly increased during
- during two decades is not idiomatic

(B) Even though its per capita food supply has hardly increased in
- in two decades is not idiomatic

(C) Despite its per capita food supply hardly increasing over

(D) Despite there being hardly any increase in its per capita food supply during
- same as A

(E) Although there is hardly any increase in per capita food supply for

Between C and E, I'll go with E. Although 'over 2 decades' is acceptable, but 'hardly increasing' in C is awkward.

E for me.

C,D and E are out. In E "there is" and "for two decades" donot sounds good.

I am between A and B. A is in past where as B is in Present Perfect (PP). I like "during" in A over "in" in B. Because the second clause is in PP, i prefer B to make the tense correct.

A&B can be faulted because of incorrect use of modifying phrase - as the IC starts with "stringent rationing", "Even though its per capita food" in the DC seems to suggest that "its" in the DC refers to stringent rationing.

I am leaning towards E! (still thinking about verb tense agreement though!)

It has to be E.

DC + ',' + 'IC'

Despite will alsways be wrong in GMAT for dependent clause. C and D are definetly out.

A is missing a verb

B is awkward in the sense it should say there is heardly and increase rather than saying it has hardly increased.
