The correct answer is A. The design = IT - B is wrong. The comparison is among Jan’s, Debbie’s and Dan’s designs and not Jan, Debbie and Dan - D,E wrong. Answer C uses the word "is" incorrectly.

What is tested here is the use of Ellipses. When you use an ellipse like it is used in A it is used correctly. "Even though Jan’s design has proved more fashionable than Debbie’s design is and more prominent than Dan’s design is, it is no more useful." The words colored in red are understood and do not need to be included in the sentence, when you extract the words (use an ellipse) you are able to create a concise sentence, such as the original sentence you gave. The rest of the options can be eliminated based on this rule. HTH Mari

A for me, parallelism and it, refers to the design and should not refer to any of the people, which is why you eliminated choices with ....,he

A. (b) he design is not he totally wrong (c) even if i didn't know why is would be wrong here i would exclude it because of the parallelism issue. Normally, it would have to be Debbie's has and Dan's has but not Debbie's is and Dan's is - so C is out (d) + (e) Design is compared to Debbie - improper comparison - WRONG! (a) Jan's design is correctly compared with Debbie's and Dan's [design], it correctly replaces design - there are no other appropriate antecedents. So A is the winner !
