a. the number of new home sales will continue to decrease
b. those of new home sale decrease
c. it decreases for new home sales - awkward
for is incorrect too, 'of' is correct usage (the number 'of')
d. those of new home sales decrease
e. there are decreases for the number of new home sales
- incorrect
- also it is not parallel - (the number of X will continue to increase, while the number of Y will continue to decrease)

Note: "the number" is singular.

Well d is incorrect for the reason that " those" is plural and "The number" in "the number of annual home foreclosures "is singular.

D compares "the number of annual home foreclosures" with "those of home sales"

Hence Chuck out D

A maintains parallelism..hence correct
