Experts!!! please help! Do i stand a chance?? [#permalink] New post 19 Oct 2013, 20:32
Hi Experts

I am an Indian, female, 30, with 8 years work ex at mid-managerial level in garments exports and sourcing, for some great brands like gap/ralph lauren/ debenhams etc. I want to apply for a one-year full-time mba (cannot afford a two-year with my newborn baby). I was hoping for high 600's considering my mock test scores but i ended up scoring a disappointing 600.

now the application deadlines are approaching and i will lose another year if i retake. i had aimed for ISB Hyderabad, Insead, IMD, IE, kellogg, and oxford said- all full time one year MBAs. But with such a low score, i am at a loss what to do! I really cannot waste another year.

I want to know, if i present excellent essays/recommendations, do i still stand a chance in any of the above mentioned schools? Or any other great 1 year full time one program that i missed in the list?

Many thanks for your inputs.

Hi,

B-schools evaluate your overall profile so don't worry about low GMAT I am sure with 8 years of solid work experience you must be having many strong reasons to apply for top b-schools so focus on your strengths and application essays and recos. INSEAD, Kellogg, ISB and Oxford look little ambitious schools based on your profile but I would suggest you to apply for IMD, IE, Rotterdam, Manheim, Emlyon in Europe. Cass b-school and Warwick in UK and Singapore Management University (SMU) in Asia Pacific region. If you are happen to based in Bangalore you can also attend the workshop organized by the alumnus of top business school and ISB admission team on 27th October 2013. You can register for the workshop here http://goo.gl/cyKfTK

Feel free to post any other query or concern that you might have.

Cheers!!

I would strongly suggest you to retake the exam. Also, certain schools like INSEAD have two intakes so you could always begin a little later.

Good luck,

Hi,

All said and done, its very few people who get into the top b-schools with a score of 600. I think you are extremely brave to think of studying with an infant baby, and I hope that whichever b-schools you apply to, take you in despite the low score.

A lot of the European b-schools will evaluate your profile and then encourage/discourage you to apply. Use that option. HEC is one among them. If you are keen on luxury management then some programs like Essec, SDA Bocconi etc. would be great for you.
