Feeling very discouraged [#permalink] New post 19 Aug 2013, 11:03
It seems like the more I study and less I score.

I took a Manhattan GMAT practice on July 15th and score 540. (37Q 28V) For the next two weeks I studied some of the Manhattan material online and took another exam on August 1st and scored the same 540 and even the same breakdown of score of 37Q and 28V.

Then I thought I should take a break from Manhattan material and did practice problems from official guide. After two weeks of problem solving from Official Guides, i took a practice exam from the GMAC software instead of a Manhattan test. I scored a heartbreaking 490 (32Q 25V) yesterday. I am feeling very discouraged and don't feel like opening the book any more. Please offer your suggestions.

My goal is to score 600 on the real test by September end. That gives me 7-8 weeks. Is it possible? 42 in Quant and 32 in Verbal will do the magic for me. Please offer your suggestions. Thanks.

Regards,
Sam.

Try using magoosh.com and the gmatclub tests.

Also, how is your pace during the tests? Are you rushing to complete the last 5 or so questions, or are you on a good pace?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

I am good at timing actually. I didn't rush on the last few problems. However I got 6 wrong out of the last 7. It seems like I was probably on the same 37Q track until I got all wrong and fell to 32Q.

Wouldn't using Magoosh or other training stuff just be a repetition? I was looking towards tactics and few pointers on how I can improve. Any thoughts?

This score dosent mean that you dont know anything, especially in quant if u get a series of wrong answers then you tend to score low. This holds true for top 20 quant ques's..

So if needed spend extra time on them get most of them right...

Also you souldnt take mock score seriously after all they are MOCKS...rather pen down on what topics you got most questions wrong...read the theory from gc club and then practice 10 ques from 600 level then 10 from 650 and then 10 from 700 from the individual topic.

All timed...You can avoid mocks for sometime and try solving thread ques's instead.
