Could someone try to fill in the blanks and explain briefly the contents of the sentence?

Prudery actually draws attention to the vice it is supposed to __________;

d. obviate: fosters

Why you're sking this here is beyond me.

But I'll take a shot.

Prudery could be defined by "propriety" or "cautiousness", so if it is actually draw(ing) attention to a vice, it's backfiring. Prudery is supposed to condemn, repress, or obviate. (A, C, or D)

"The very act (of being prude)______ what is hidden." Since prudery is (in this example) ineffective, it must show what it is trying to hide or mask. The only answers that work here are dramatize, foster, and conceal. (C, D, and E)

So C and D both seem like okay guesses. If I had to pick, I'd say C, since "dramatizes" is a much stronger word than "fosters"

prudery "modesty"draws attention to vice "evil" that it is supposed to (hide) repress...
the very act that is supposed to prohibit sight, but it actually "dramatize" what is hidden

"C" it is.
