Hey all

I have been an ardent reader of GMAT CLUB. A lot of confusion in my mind when I am starting with prep. I have exactly 3 months: to sept 15 test date.
Could anyone please let me know the final list and order (if applicable) of books I need to follow for a Q50 score. I have a gud base in quant but need to do it GMAT focused.

Also, what is the difference between quant books included in Manhattan 8 strategy guides and some other 5 quant books and The Foundations of GMAT Math Strategy Supplement (326 pages)?

Hey there Friend,

Do you love math?
Have you studied math for an exam recently?

1.) Have you studied math for an exam recently?

This will help you answer what topics you need brushing up upon. If you gave no exams, probably you did not study algebra or geometry recently. Maybe these topics did not figure in you daily work and you need to know them ( Q: Whats the volume of a pyramid when its enclosed in a cube with the same base?)

Soln: See the 8 MGMAT books, and select the ones you want to tackle first. If the word, "Permutation & combination" is Valyrian for you, (GOT reference) then "Foundations...." MGMAT is for you.

So you brushed up all the topics, remember the formulas, and generally, what the question is about. But, are you someone who will miss and fail to notice the subtle info in the question stem, or fail to quickly notice this very commonly tested concept of maths. (Q: Do you know the solutions algebraic equation need to be put back into the equation and tested for validity?)

Ans: If you have a Quant background. Then this is easy and you don't need to think about it. Other wise no books can help you, only exposing yourself to many questions will do.

3.) Do you love math?

You want a 50 you say? Good. You have the first two parts done. Now to get to the tough part. The harder smart questions. Which will tell the GMAT adaptive brain, "yes, this fellow can understand what we want". Advanced Quant of MGMAT will give you the temperament. Mind you just the temperament. But its the last icing on the cake. You don't NEED it for a delicious cake. But if you have it the cakes much more sweeter.

So, there's the 2 cents worth of advice. But before that just give a diagnostic test (preferably, GMATPrep) and see, anything above 42 says, you don't need to read too many books. You have other stuff to work upon like, timing, specific tricks and trials of DS, etc.

Thanks Avik

Yes. I hv a quant background. Bachelor of Engineering, 2 Masters of Engineering(1 from IIT Delhi), topped district in 12th mathematics, scored 326GRE (168Q 158V)...so yes I am confident I can score well.its just that I am starting. I just need an exhaustive list so that I know that these are the 9 books that need to be mastered.

Hey Avik

I took GMATPrep today and got 710 (47Q 41V). The questions were tricky but interesting. I will surely aim for a 50 score. Tell me something. Does that mean all questions in the test need t o be correct? I am not sure how it works.

Whats your take on Quant Review by GMAC?

Thanks

Abhishek
