Finally I get to tell my story - 710 (49, 40) AWA 6.0 [#permalink] New post 13 May 2008, 16:09
I started my GMAT prep by taking a PR class, my work paid for the course so I had no problems with it. It really gave me the structure I needed to get started on my long long long GMAT road. My first practice exam I scored a 470, it was really crushing as I was planning on looking at top 15 programs and knew I needed at least a 680. According to my instructor it was going to be very hard to make up the large gap but it was definitely possible.

Things got better, when the next week I was able to pull a 580 and I figured the road to 700 couldn't be that hard. Well by the end of the class I was able to score a 640 on the PR test. I went ahead and sat the test with the hopes that the PR test were lower scoring then the actual GMAT. A week after the class came to an end I sat the GMAT and scored a 640 (45, 32).

That's when I joined the forums and really became a student of the GMAT. I took a couple of months off from studying and then got back into by teaching GMAT math to a coworker. I decided that to get to the 700 mark my verbal was going to need a lot of improvement in SC and I needed a lot more work in DS for math.

I went back through the OG and purchased the Verbal and Quant supplements. As suggested by basically everyone here I bought the MGMAT SC book and read it twice. I also took a ton of practice test my second time around to make sure I was ready for the big day. Here is my breakdown of practice test.

PR
680 48 36
720 51 39
730 51 40
730 48 44
760 51 44

MGMAT
730 49 40
710 48 39
730 49 41
760 49 45
760 51 42

PowerPrep
760 50 42

GMATPrep
700 46 40
720 48 40

After taking GMATPrep I decided that my range would probably be anywhere from a 680 to a 740. I took the day off of work the day before and just relaxed and made sure I got a good night sleep. Woke up ready to finally beat the GMAT.

End result.

710 (49, 40) - I'd also like to add that I'm very ADD and I remember another posting talking about the struggles he had with the GMAT. I have documentation that I'm ADD and have been since I was in the second grade, but I did not request any additional time for the test as you normally have to show that you struggle academically.

I can't thank the people on this forum enough for the help I've received and I finally got to make a 700club post!

well done lsuguy. Many congrats.

A quick question. How well did you think MGMAT tests corresponded to your final score. I see that you've scored heavily with the MGMAT tests, but not as heavily at the GmatPreps. From memory MGMAT is far tougher than the real thing, did you experience that too ?

MGMAT Math is tough but you can miss a lot and get a good score. Also for some reason I do well on the ds and because I know the problems take a long time I try to get through the questions faster. However, GMATPrep and the real thing have really "tricky" questions that make me think what is this question asking for? I think my MGMAT score were inflated as I had already done the PR Test and the OG so I was seeing similar or repeat questions on the verbal.

People say it day in and day out on this forum GMATPrep is your friend it is by far the most accurate practice test.

Congratulations on a great score. It's even more impressive considering you didn't request any additional time despite your documented ADD. See you in the B-School Application forum! :-)

Well now that I've finally done with the GMAT I'm having a great time exploring the rest of the forum. I recent posted my profile on the admissions consultants section and have been reading a ton on all the elite and ultra elite schools.
