Financial Times Best European Business Schools 2007 [#permalink]
07 Dec 2007, 16:22
Just came out a few days ago.
This particular ranking looks not only at the MBA programs, but the other programs each European business school offers.

Hey there,
I'm going for INSEAD, St. Gallen, and perhaps Rotterdam if I don't get into either of the first two.
I was all about the UK schools a while back, i.e. LBS, Oxford, Cambridge, but when I visited all the schools and stayed in and around London for 10 days, I just didn't like the whole environment. I can't see living and working there. I think they are all great schools, but I am opting for a route that will better lead to a career in continental Europe, so that's why INSEAD and St. Gallen are my top two.
INSEAD goes without explaining.
St. Gallen b/c of the location (I'll get to snowboard every weekend during the winter), and it's the top b-school in German-speaking countries (where my wife and I can best balance our two careers).

trader1, have you looked at IMD? I visited the campus a few weeks ago and it is great school. I'm also looking at St. Gallen but am concerned about the "newness" of the program. Is that something you've thought about?

I looked at IMD, and I would not fit in there. Plus, it's more geared towards industry rather than finance/banking/consulting. Great school nonetheless, but not for everyone.
St. Gallen's MBA is new, but the institution has been around for over 100 years. In German-speaking countries, carrying the name St. Gallen on your CV is the equivalent of "Oxbridge" in the UK or Harvard/Yale/Stanford/Princeton in the US. Bottom line, the regional brand is quite unparalleled. And, this plays great into my future career location - Switzerland or Germany. I would compare St. Gallen's MBA to the likes of Oxford and Cambridge, since their programs are relying on the name-brand of the university proper. Comparatively, St. Gallen has more of a reputation for business and finance in its region than do Oxford and Cambridge in theirs.
By 2010, St. Gallen should have a ranking in FT (5 years after inception).

I never did understand HEC ranking higher than Insead / LBS.

If you look closely, the Full time MBA of LBS is rated higher than that of HEC. However HEC seems to have a better overall rating - including better executive and masters programs.
