VeritasPrepKarishma Bunuel or any math experts - Could you please solve this question using the method mentioned in this thread (this thread has been closed and hence the new post) -- http://gmatclub.com/forum/find-the-last-2-digits-of-86325-40.html#p826436

Find the last two digits of 77*31*23*43*27

I picked these numbers because there aren't divisible by 2 or 5. I cannot go past this step... so your expertise is needed.

77*31*23*43*27/100

Also, why can't I use this approach on a question like this - 33*33*33*33? Thank you loads for all your help.

Find the last two digits of 77*31*23*43*27 [#permalink] New post 02 Dec 2014, 01:46
Hello Paresh - I am not sure if this a GMAT type question. I stumbled on this type of question in 500 L question set and I have a doubt regarding the method they showed in the post (mentioned in my question). There is not an OA as this question was made up. Anyhow, the answer is 61.

p.s: Also, may I know why this question is re-tagged as General Math questions when I posted it in Problem Solving section? This is the second time I have re-posted the question under PS and it somehow got tagged otherwise. Please correct me if I am missing something.

This is not a GMAT question, nor are the questions from the topic you've mentioned and that's why it is locked.

OK; if the question is re-tagged in "General Math questions", means its not a GMAT question. ( I believe)

well it is no tht difficult...

77*31*23*43*27

relax first-

7*1*3*3*7 =units digit =1

i would have to to the options now if u had given any.
but no options then

77*31 = last 2 digits 87
87*23 = last 2 digits 01
01*43 = last 2 digits 43
43*27 = 61

The GMAT does not test these types of questions, at least so far I have not seen anything along these lines. The only tens digit question that I have seen on a real GMAT exam is the one listed below:

What is the tens' digit of the sum of the first 40 terms of 1, 11, 111, 1111, 11111, 111111, ...?

A. 2
B. 3
C. 4
D. 8
E. 9

[Reveal] Spoiler: Answer
B

Discussion here: what-is-the-tens-digit-of-the-sum-of-the-first-40-terms-of-126576.html

Cheers,
Dabral
