Hi everyone,
I have been a regular at this forum since the past one month. So I thought that I must share my experience here (however bad it is
) I took GMAT today after preparing for a month. I couldnt prepare for longer as I had my law exams in October ( Im only 20,still studying and will graduate in 2005
)
My experience-
AWA--
Well AWA went off pretty well. Sticking to templates from Kaplan and PR really helped me.
Quantitative-
I did reasonably well in Q- 47. ( I think so atleast!
) Well, the sections started with a very easy roots question. The 3rd one was a perm-comb sum (very very easy, nothing compared to the sums discussed at the forum).Sums started getting difficult as I proceeded. It gave me confidence that I was doing well. But I could tackle most of them. Time was also on my side
I got lots of sums dealing with percentage and square roots. Got some word problems too . Found them to be pretty easy. Around the 17th question, I got a problem which TOTALLY stumped me. I had no idea how to do it. I wasted a good 5 mins on it, before guessing and moving ahead. Around the 32nd question or so, I got a reasonably difficult geometry problem. I knew how to solve it. (Hint: Dealt with two types of geometrical figures simultaneously, nothing like this has been discussed at this forum or anywhere else!!). But I didnt have much time to do it. I think I got overwhelmed by the fact that I could solve it and wasted 3-4 mins. So I ended up making an educated guess and moving on. I got a few ratio problems (Pretty easy). One thing that was tested throughout the test were integer questions, some easy, some a little difficult.
Verbal--
Guys, this was a real no-show for me and is TOTALLY responsible for my bad score. Can I get a big ruler somewhere to hit myself on my a**?? I think I deserve it!!! Anyways, I got two RCs in the first 10 questions. they were of around 35 lines each, pretty easy, but conceptual. SCs and CRs were extremely easy, much much easier than
OG. The funny thing is I hardly saw any idioms being tested. Most of the problems dealt with Tenses, Parallelism and Modifiers only. CRs were very easy too, far easier than wat we study in the
OG. I got 2 BF's- one around the 12th question and one arond the 30th question. They were very easy too. I was totally totally shocked when I saw a 70 LINES RC around the 35th question. ( IF you guys have read that "sticky" in "GMAT" called VERY VERY SCARED OF RC, then you will know how scared I AM of RCs!!!). Anyways, I think I was doing pretty well till around the 30th question but this RC totally threw me off. I didnt have much time to understand it. It dealt with the management
og companies (one of my all-time favortie topics), so I answered the questions after reading the passage only ONCE. I think this RC brutally spoilt my Verbal score. cant be anything else.
Bottomline-
Still dunno what went wrong in the Verbal section that spoilt my score !!
Anyways, I was extremely disheartened this afternoon when I came back home after giving the exam. My mom and my fiancee( he is in the US- yes, its long distance!!) pacified me for a long time. I feel much much better now. SO I decided to post my experience. Besides, I feel that I have participated so much in this Forum since the past one month that everyone out there deserve to know whether I ruled the GMAT or not
I would like to specially thank
Saurabhmalpani who really calmed me down last night. I had become extremely hyper when I couldnt solve two very silly sums. He really calmed me down and told me " Look Pragati, GMAT is your slave and you are the Queen"
Dunno whether this principle still holds true!!!!
Secondly, I would like to thank
Paul, Praet, Gayathri and everyone else who helped me to learn many small small tricks in the past one month. Paul, you might not be knowing this, but I went through many of your posts in which you have laid down SUPERB SC RULES. YOU ROCK!!!
Praet, Im sorry I dont think I did as well as you expected me to
If I had another month, maybe I would have done better.
Gayathri, you are a darling!!
Anyways, I think I deserve some sleep for 2-3 days as I havent slept for more than 5-6 hours in the past two months!! ( Law exams+GMAT).
Thanks everyone, GMATclub rocks!!
