First time GMAT: 720 - need to retake it for INSEAD Jan'10? [#permalink]
16 Mar 2009, 05:53
I just passed the GMAT: final score 720 (with Q-49, V39).
Well here is my story: I took one week to prepare the test with a Kaplan book + software. I practised also with the 2 tests given by the GMAT and downloaded from the site mba.com.
I really do not know if this 720 score is enough for INSEAD Jan'10, especially as - I will apply for the second round - the crisis has significantly increased the number of MBA applicants - my academic background (++) may lead the admission board to expect from me a higher score ...
So I am wondering: do I need to retake the GMAT to have a higher score (750 or +) and be sure I am "on track" for INSEAD Jan'10?

Thanks lsuguy7 and nink for your replies !
Well that is the point, lsuguy7: I don't know if - a higher GMAT score really increases chances of admission, - or if it does not do any difference as long as you have a score above the unofficial minimal one ...
To answer to nink, my background is the following: 1- top-ranked "grande école" in France (selection by my university of the scientific undergraduates top 0,5%) 2- and then elite governmental leadership programs (admission rate: 2%) in telecommunications / industry sector. So as it is a "solid" background and I am sure INSEAD knows it (they are partially French !), I am wondering if they would not expect from me to have a "solid" score reflecting this background... i.e. no less than 750 ...
I am starting to regret having spent only 1 week to prepare the GMAT ...
If you feel that you can do significantly better - 760 and above (by investing another week ), then it may be worth it. I do think there is value in having 99th percentile (as I once did before all of you inflated it), but it is definitely not worth a lot of effort.
