I was wondering whether it will be beneficial/ harmful to call the adcom to follow up after I've submitted my application, not to ask about my application or candidacy/ chances etc but to know more about the school.
I know I'm supposed to find out about the school before applying but one cannot find out everything right. So when I call up the adcom (if, of course, he/ she agrees to speak with me) I speak a little something about the things I already know and why I decided to apply to that school and also ask her some more questions.. like, how has your experience been, how much of a role does diversity play in the collective development of a class etc etc..
I know some students visit the school after submitting the application but I cant do that. The school is 10,000 miles away
Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea.
1) Given that it's just a call, they're probably going to wonder why you didn't call before submitting your application.
2) If one of the deadlines just passed, it means that the admissions committee is going to be crazy busy reviewing applications and might not be as interested in chatting, particularly when the purpose of the call is unclear.
