Revise CR concepts again.. Take a break, do not practice CR, just revise powerscore CR or any other CR source you have followed.

Updates : I m currently revising Mgmat SC and official guide. (accuracy of 65%).
I need to work really hard to improve SC. Modifiers and pronouns are my weakest area and I have decided to tackle them separately for 2-3 days.

My accuracy for CR in Og was very good initially but was quite lower for the initial hard questions , so I have decided to revise CR bible again after SC.
I m progressing , but at a very low rate.

Guys: please update.

Will start Manhattan SC tomorrow. Finally finished the Powerscore books, so I feel strong in RC and LR now. I'm finished with math books too, so just SC now and some OG.

Hello Friends,

What about an idea of posting the key points of what you have studied on particular day(or over a period of 3-4 days). It can be very brief, may be ranging from one liner to five liners. Believe me it would not take more than 10 minutes and it would be of immense help because we do study a lot of things, but usually we forget after a week or two. By this approach, we would be able to keep in memory the things we studied previously without affecting the topic we are currently concentrating on.

@Gurpreet : What you say? You are the one who started this thread :-D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rakesh

P.S.: Post can be like
1. What are the traps one should avoid while answering particular type of CR questions?
2. Something you have studied about pronouns, modifiers or anything germane to the topic.

Today I went through the conditionals sentences. I am sharing the information garnered today:

The conditionals can be classified into three types:
If clause .....Main clause
1. If + present .....future(result) [If he comes to the market, I will meet him]
2. If + past .....would + verb(result)[If you practised hard, you could pass the exam]
3. If + past perfect .....would + have + past participle(result)[If Rohan had come to my house, I would have given him the money]

Now, look at the common errors in the usage of conditionals:
1. If I will pass the exam, I will get admission in the college [Wrong]
If I pass the exam, I will get admission in the college[Right]
2. If I had been there, I would avert the accident[Wrong]
If I were there, I would avert the accident or
If I had been there, I would have averted the accident [Right]
3. If I would have a degree from a top b-school, I would get a great happiness[Wrong]
If I had a degree from a top b-school, I would get a great happiness.[Right]

Looking forward to hearing from you. If it helps, I would continue[wrong sentence].
If it helps, I will continue. :)

Hi All? Whats up guys?

I have tried all sorts for Verbal ,and I m concluding that we can not improve verbal unless we read a lot of good english literature.
Follow the Gmat Fiction created by BB and read as much as you can.

read as much as you can.

Yep.

I found this to be most true. Sure learning grammar and solving SC and CR problems like they are math is relatively simple, but RC is a pain if you have a hard time reading through the little details.

Personally I've spent past two years reading, reading and more reading. Plus, practice makes it perfect.

At the rate I'm going with reading, it looks like I'll be ready for GMAT sometime in December.

Hi Friends,

Thank you very much for creating this dedicated thread for verbal preparation.
Thanks Gurupreet for your efforts.

I was feeling quite nervous because of verbal score. I came across this thread and it inspired me a lot. I am seeing myself along with you guys and I am sure studying with you will definitely increase my score. I am more confident now after going through the posts in this thread.

I am giving GMAT for the first time. Till now I have done verbal part from OG12, OG10(Except RC). Gone through Manhattan SC, CR bible. Yesterday I gave GMAT Prep and my score Q 41 and V 21.

I studied CR bible and then through OG10. It improved my accuracy in CR and I am not worried about CR currently.

About SC, even though I have gone through Manhattan SC twice and solved OG12 twice, whenever a new question appears, I am able to eliminate 3 answers and I am almost always confused on the rest of the two choices.
SC accuracy is only 60% in any mock test given.

I am now planning to revise Manhattan SC again because it has been long time since I last opened it. For SC, I am practicing problems from grockit and from other material and not going back to Manhattan SC. Perhaps that might be the reason of poor SC performance.

About RC, struggling with inference and tone of author questions. overall accuracy in RC is only 50 % while in CR is 80 %

It will be very much helpful if you guys can share some tips about it.
I will keep posting my progress here.

Thanks and Regards,
Chaitra

Chaitra

I am not good in verbal though but I can share with you what my approach has been

I have already given the GMAT once and my score was 550 (Q47,V20).

My accuracy has increased upto 80 % from 50%(or sometimes even less) in SC in last one month.

What I did was instead of solving the OG question.
I read the SC Ques on GMAt Club, Manahattan forum ,beatthegmat forum and other forums available than I attempted the Brutal SC all of them and read there explanation from every forum mentioned above.Though my accuracy was mere 35% but reading there explanation from different helped me alot than i compared my way of solving these questions.
I found out so many mistakes in my approach.
Right now I am doing Manhattan SC again and working on how to improve the way i am solving the question
Right now I am doing Verbal OG and concentrating only on SC.
I would finish V.O.G by this weekend both SC and RC lets see how it goes.

Hi amneetpadda,

Thanks for your quick reply and suggesting me a different approach.

Can you please elaborate what do you just said about reading SC posts?
I want to know that, where should I start? For example, I start reading GMAT club SC forum, then should I start from the very first SC question in the forum and then solve it first by myself and then compare my approach with others? Is it the right way?
Please suggest.
Thanks,
Chaitra
