For sinus pain, three out of four hospitals give their patients Novex.
So when you want the most effective painkiller for sinus pain, Novex
is the one to choose.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the advertisement's
argument?

(A) --
(B) --
(C) Many drug manufacturers increase sales of their products to hospitals
by selling these products to the hospitals at the lowest price the
manufacturers can afford.
(D) Unlike some competing brands of painkillers, Novex is available
from pharmacies without a doctor's prescription.
(E) --

Is it D? I thought it was D cause C is out of scope and too general.

I think it is C. What's your reasoning behind C being out of scope when it actually gives a viable alternative reason for the ubiquitousness of novex in the hospitals - viz other than the reason implied in the stem that novex is the best painkiller.

Agree with C. You have to attack the advertiser's claim that "Novex is the most effective painkiller because 3 out of 4 hospitals are giving it out"

C says that the drugs hospitals carry (Novex) are the cheapest ones and hence, the reason that Novex is being given out in such proportion could be because of its price, not its effectiveness

D talks about the accessibility of Novex which in no way attacks the advertiser's claim relating to the frequency of hospitals' Novex usage

But isn't D saying that Novex is easily avaiable...because it does not require all the paperwork of getting a perscription. So that's why hostipals use it cause...it requires less work on the part of doctors etc.

With C, I thought it was too general. So Novex and OTHER drugs both might be available in abundance.....so it does not apply directly to Novex only....

Yes, Novex could be easily available in pharmacies. But do hospitals get Novex from pharmacies? What you want to do is destroy the argument that hospitals use Novex because of its effectiveness and the only way of doing it is to say that there are some other reasons, ie cost, which motivate hospitals to use Novex. C says that

PERFECT! Understood. Even if the argument is true...i cannot make any assumptions such as 'the hospital get novex from pharmacies et al'...

C address this issue directly...

thanks!
